Product Description
From the creators of Devil May Cry and Resident Evil comes the free flowing over-the-top action, extravagant weapons, demonic hair and savage grace of Bayonetta. Play as Bayonetta, a witch with powers beyond the comprehension of us mere mortals and face-off against countless angelic enemies, evil forces and giant sized foes in a game of 100% pure and unadulterated all-out action. Outlandish finishing moves are performed with balletic grace as Bayonetta flows from one fight to another. With magnificent over-the-top action taking place in stage that are a veritable them park of exciting attractions, Bayonetta pushes the limits of the action genre, bringing to life its fast-paced, dynamic climax combat. Tired of action games that value realism over fun. If so Bayonetta is the perfect cure: an outrageous brawling beat 'em-up as only the Japanese can make them. Take control of Bayonetta the only thing in the game weirder than the monsters. She might be a witch but Bayonetta isn't taking any chances when going into battle, not only does she have two handguns but her stiletto heels are also pistols and she's not above using everything from a rock launcher to a Japanese sword and a whip. But that's only the half of it: dodge an enemy at the last second and you can enter slow motion "witch time". Or try transforming into a panther or turn Bayonetta's hair into a giant boot - the more complex your attacks the more chances you'll get to use torture combos to really do some damage. After this any other action game will seem tame by comparison - Witch girl: The most exciting new games character for years bursts onto the scene with third person combat that mixes surreal visuals with ultra deep combat.
- Weapons mistress: Juggle a huge range of weapons from stiletto-mounted handguns to a two-handed sword, a magic whip or a good old fashioned shotgun.
- Hair-raising

Over the top, ludicrous, insane and the first great game of 2010 January 12, 2010 Mr. P. J. Pears (Manchester, United Kingdom) 19 out of 24 found this review helpful
Bayonetta does not start subtle. Beginning with the titular main character falling on a plummeting clock face while angelic monsters swarm around her the game starts straight away with you battling them off with four sets of guns attached to each arm and leg. It's a fantastic opening scene and the Bayonetta piles on the steam from there.
Straight out of the mind of Hideki Kamiya (Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe) Bayonetta is very much an evolution of Devil May Cry, basically if you enjoyed that or any similar action game (Such as God of War) then Bayonetta will pull you in and not let you go with a much more exciting/fast-paced combat system then any other action game in its class. Fantastic graphics and gorgeous creature designs give the entire game a wonderful look and feel plus the playful references to other games (Sonic and Outrun among others) add to the funny jokes and provide a surprising amount of laughs.
Gameplay is fast paced and also very liner with the game following a similar patter of 'move forwards, battle enemies, solve environmental puzzle, fight boss' but it pulls it off with such style and intensity that it can become hard to keep up with the insane action on screen as you loop through combos, jumps and dodges. Speaking of dodges, pressing R2 at anytime (even during combos) causes Bayonetta to somersault out of the way and doing this at the last moment causes 'Witch-Time' slowing down time allowing you to smash in some hard-hitting combos. This handy feature turns battles more into a dance as you leap and somersault out of the way before turning the tide on the swarms of enemies with rapid strikes from any of the several unlockable weapons.
On Normal the game lasts about 10/14hours depending on your skill level but there are many unlockables and you can start the game on either of the two harder difficulties with all your items, weapons and the like from the first play through. A large and rewarding unlockable art gallery, many hidden bonus stages, online leaderboards and hidden upgrades and items reward multiple playthroughs which makes this game on the whole, good value for money.
The music is a mixture of crazy J-Pop, Blues and massive dramatic choir music which can be a bit hit or miss at times, voice acting is...okay (very stereotypical and campy but fitting with the zany actions of the characters) the story is likewise a bit hit or miss, largely disjointed and forgettable (yet there are many cut-scenes which try to tell it) the story does however take you to some incredible battles against two headed dragons, massive floating angelic monsters, cardinal virtues and others. The game is hard and will push your reflexes however a competent 'continue' system allows you to push forwards and learn from mistakes without giving into rage and frustration.
One point that should be made clear is that this is first and foremost an action-fighting game; if you don't enjoy this sort of game then Bayonetta is not for you. Also the story as mentioned isn't really a major plus either. Plus the camera can also at times make it hard to see what is happening on screen(particularly in the final battle) and there can be some console slow down (but nothing on the level of the PS3 version)
Overall Bayonetta is a superb game, a game so ludicrously over the top and drunk on itself its hard not to hum along with its remix of 'Fly me to the Moon' as you slash and hack through the angelic hordes. If you are a fan of Kamiya's other works or just want to try something that could only be made in Japan then you should not hesitate, this is the first great game of 2010.
+ A fantastic, fluid and responsive combat system
+ Unique and evocative art style
+ Some of the best boss battles around
+ Great animation and graphics
+ Rewarding of multiple playthroughs
+ Delightful, insane and wonderfully fun
- The story is all over the place and largely forgettable
- Some slight camera issues
Dumb fun August 23, 2010 Soy1Bonus (Oviedo, Spain) If you like God Hand, you'll love this. I prefer God of War over Devil May Cry but I love japanese absurd products like this. This game had really lots of things I didn't expect (good things) and tons of nods to other capcom and clover games.
It was pretty long too, I expected to beat it in about 8 hours and I ended up with 12. And I'll play it again for sure, it was really fun.
better than DMC4 June 29, 2010 Fahad Nasser Yousef Pros:
+ runs at 60fps.
+ a lot of combos.
+ rewarding, in terms of collecting points in the game and achievements for 360 version.
+ awesome art direction and very nice character designs.
+ directed by the kamiya, father of the DMC franchise.
+ game has different challenges called "Alfeihim Challenges".
Cons:
- mini-boss battles
- graphics
Fantastic insane game May 10, 2010 Voodoo Dave this has traits of devil may cry written all over it!!
this is one very busy fast paced game, buying power ups, health, techniques, lots of baddies to fight, wild bosses and awesome firepower to fight them with, it strikes me as having quite a few different gameplays all roled into one.
I thought this was quite a long game and some levels are big,
you will find you will be button bashing quite a lot,
i recommend this all day long, one of the few games that i have finished and will instantly play again.
If you like dmc buy this, you will be glad you did :-)
Fun Fun Fun... April 21, 2010 E.B. (Italy) Outstanding. Even if you don't like action games, you can argue with me that is sure a great one. If you liked the demo on XBOX live, you simply can't miss the game. It will surprise you in many ways.
