Amazon.co.uk Review
The Game Boy is that small, colourful hand-held video game system clutched by folks playing it everywhere. Popular among a wide age group, including a good number of airport-lounging power executives, theGame Boy has a true hard-core fan base comprising millions (and millions) of kids around the globe.

Nintendo's Game Boy debuted in the late 1980s and has since sold over 60 million units world-wide, far outpacing other hand-held game systems. With a catalogue of over 1,000 games and dozens of add-on peripherals, Game Boy is a monster of a hand-held game system, and a remarkably affordable one at that. Early March 1998 brought the release of the Game Boy Colour system, an upgraded version of the original. It is equipped with an 8-bit CPU, doubling the original Game Boy's computing power. The small LCD screen can display up to 56 colours simultaneously (out of a 32,000-color palette), delivered via boosted video processing memory that provides remarkably sharp and vibrant graphics.

The hundreds of available games vary from tremendously compelling to instantly forgettable. Quality or not, the entire library of games designed for the original system is playable on Game Boy Colour, but buyers should note that not all Game Boy Colour games will work on the original Game Boy system.

The Game Boy Colour system is available in an exotic array of colours and special editions. Accessories and add-on peripherals abound, enhancing the playing experience with vibrating feedback to in-game bumps and crashes, extra battery power and even a clever camera package that allows players to capture, tweak and print images.

5 out of 5 stars game boy color - blue   October 24, 2000

A Huge improvement from the standard gameboy. This product enables the same easy access to gaming as the original gameboy but at the same time increases the playability tenfold with the introduction of color (colour), allowing backgrounds and characters to be portrayed in much more detail making the games come to life and appear that much more realistic. Thus making the games much more enjoyable to play.

A definite must buy for all true gaming fans.

5 out of 5 stars Gameboy colour - probably the best hand held game ever!   December 31, 2000

If you have been thinking of buying a handheld console, this would be the one to get, it looks brilliant in clear purple and it is fun to look at it's insides, also, you can only play black and white games on the game boy pocket yet you can play every single game boy game ever on the game boy colour, plus a lot of the accesories for game boy's are only for colour ones.

Here are the points which make this stand out from the rest:

1) It plays ALL game boy games 2) It plays them in colour

3) It looks very cool 4) It has a long battery life - 20 hours 5) It has superb sound quality 6) It has infra - red link up 7) They are quite cheap 8) There are a variety of cool accsesories just for the colour version 9) It has the largest selection of games for a handheld console

So all in all, this is THE handheld console to buy, it is the best product out there.

5 out of 5 stars Durable and Addictive!   January 2, 2008

This console is very outdated, but has a lot of good old fashioned stuff that the newer consoles lack - durabilty. During my playing of a year, I had bashed it around 50 times accidentally or on pupose. If I did that to a DS, it would break on first impact! One problem I have got with it is that there wern't many good games and only Pokemon was really good. I was addicted to Pokemon - spent hours on it...
Anyway, anyone interested in buying an old hand-held for nostagia value, this is the one for you (though I would reccomend the garish pink one I had). But if you are looking for the latest, you are looking in the wrong place!

5 out of 5 stars The ONLY Thing To Play On!   June 7, 2001

Geez! Whoever thought this was just another handheld is utterly (butterly) wrong! This is the ONLY thing to play on and whoever hasn't got one, tut tut tut! Purple is the best and watch this space 'cause now new Gameboy Advance has come out the prices will be low!

Be cooler than your mates with a, PURPLE, Gameboy Color!

Rock my World!

5 out of 5 stars A true classic   October 15, 2009

I purely bought the Lime Green GBC for my sister who absolutely loves the colour. Not just that though, she loves the GBC so I have a feeling this will be a great hit as a Christmas present (Y) The GB brings back fun memories of all the RPG's we have.

I received the hand held 2 days after I ordered it so I am pleased with the service. Also it is in good condition minus a couple of minor scratches on the screen but are in no way a hindrance to play time. I'll admit I was concerned there wouldn't be a back for the batteries but I am there is. Though I was quite surprised batteries were included (not saying I didn't want there to be). The only thing I would have liked to have seen is that it came with a box, not the original packaging but just something as assurance. Not to worry though, it is only a minor insignificant berate.

Nonetheless the sound quality is great, the screen is smooth and the colour is perfect. An overall great package to a favourite and timeless classic.
