Another top class game for the total war series March 25, 2010 R. Strong (U/K) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have owned all the total war titles since Shogun and in my opinion this ranks as the best so far, not just because of the graphics available but the game is just superbly produced and incredibly immersive.
The one problem that i had with Empire total war was the impersonality of the game, in Napoleon that isn't the case. With the greater ease and more realistic leveling of your armies you can become more attached to specific units that have risen to become one of the most feared battle field opponents, whether cannon, horse, foot or ship.
The battles themselves run very smoothly and the IA is far less glitchy than on Empire, the IA is also suitable leveled tactically, so if you have it on easy prepare for a frontal assault on your lines but on hard watch for the flanking cavalry and infantry ambushes as well as maneuvers that will suck you in and spit you out.
The diplomacy has once again vastly improved from the last with the better ability to gain help in wars against your enemies as well as trade embargoes against states you're displeased with or want to strangle.
The old option to loot or peacefully take control of territories is back and works with great effect, there is also the option in certain regions to liberate the lands and gain a protectorate.
The graphic improvements from empire are of very high quality with the greater feeling of the ferocity of war and battles at sea and on land with camera shakes, musket flashes and smoke as well as heat have from explosions and other pyrotechnics.
The campaign lengths are just write, from mini scenarios to huge world domination games as well as following the campaigns of Napoleon.
All in all a very well produced game with days of re-playability a must buy for any budding strategists.
I have had no problems with the steam client and even though i don't agree with it, it didn't stop me buying this game and I'm very glad!
Great Game but Update your Drivers! March 15, 2010 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have brought all the "Total War" Games.
I love "Rome"!! have even started replaying it again.
"Empire" was a dissapointment! Initially it worked fine, but when I updated my Graphic's Card Drivers it would no longer play!
(I have a high end Gaming PC with SLI)
So I had the choice of reinstalling the old Graphics Card Drivers, switch off SLI ,or stop playing it.....I stopped playing it!
When "Napolean" was released I was concerned I would have the same problem, but this was the "Total War" game I always wanted, so I brought it anyway.
Its a huge game 20GB straight out of the box.
Once installed I played a "Quick Battle",which was really good, the graphics are great! But towards the end of the Battle it crashed my PC.
At first I thought hear we go again, maybe its just a bug in the game? but it crashed my PC again whilst playing the "Tutorial".
After some research on the internet I realised I had'nt updated my Graphics Card Drivers for about 9 months (Everything was working fine, until now,so why should I)
After updating my Graphics Card Drivers to the latest version, the game now plays perfectly and I have got stuck into the "Italian Campaign" (On "Easy" Yes Im a wuss)
The enemy AI is leaps ahead of that in "Rome", much more devious! Watch out for enemy cannons when they fire "Grape shot" into your ranks - devastating!
I can certainly highly recommend this game for Veterans & New Recruits alike.
Just remember to update your Graphics Cards Drivers to the latest version!!!

Large improvement over empire. The Napoleon campaigns involve you and are great fun playing. No problems installing on steam and no immediately obvious bugs or glitchs in the game so so far after playing for a day im very happy with the great improvement over Empire total war.
Worth The Wait! February 26, 2010 Mr. M. Hill (London, England) 36 out of 41 found this review helpful
after playing all of previous Total War games. I was not sure weather to get it due to the total failure which was Empire Total War...
The Campain is amazing, more realistic and you feel soo much more envolved in the game. I love the new multiplayer which allows me to do the campain with friend online or play battles with him. There is also a wide range of Historic Battles such as Trafalgar and Waterloo. All of the glitches and problems i faced in Empire Total War are all gone! Can't Wait for the Expansion Pack!
The Perfection of Empire Total War February 26, 2010 ellis clark 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
Just got this game in the post today, started playing it and i love it! basically everything wrong with empire has been fixed along with many more updates new amazing gameplay, such as the screen shaking when you get close to the battlefield where guns and cannons are firing, however i'd say a good computer is needed to play it!
