Need For Speed series is now up to its fourth incarnation and, like a fine wine, has matured with age. The opening sequence displays the fine cars on offer in a glorious rendered show, giving the look and feel of
Gran Turismo 2. The range of supercars available is a motorist's dream, varying from the
BMW M5 to the
Ferrari F50. The game runs well, with a well-designed menu system and smooth graphics while racing.
The gameplay is also extensive, recreating realistic car mechanics and offering different gaming modes, such as time trial and pursuit and capture. A variety of tracks are available, ranging from urban street chasing to rural rallying, testing the cars to the limit.
Need For Speed 4: Road Challenge is a challenging yet fun driving game. However, those looking for a more arcade feel to their driving should consider Ridge Racer Type 4.--Alex Leung.
